Grey Melange Yarn for Activewear
Heather grey is one of the defining looks of modern activewear and athleisure, and a grey melange polyester yarn is the cleanest way to build it into a performance fabric. Here is how ours fits activewear, and how to spec it.
Why polyester melange suits activewear
- It is 100% polyester. That gives the base fabric the moisture-management, quick-dry behaviour and shape retention activewear depends on — properties of the fibre itself, not a finish that washes off.
- The heather is colourfast. Because the grey is built by combining two filaments rather than surface-dyed, it does not bleed or fade through repeated wash-and-wear — important for garments laundered constantly.
- It runs clean and consistent. A continuous filament feeds knitting machines evenly, so the heather stays uniform across a production run.
Choosing denier and construction
Activewear usually wants a lighter, softer hand:
- 70D–100D suits performance tees, base layers and lightweight single jersey.
- 120D–150D suits fleece-backed and structured pieces such as joggers and hoodies.
We build the yarn as a combined filament — DTY+FDY or DTY+DTY (see DTY vs FDY vs POY). A textured DTY brings the soft, slightly stretchy hand activewear likes; an FDY end adds strength and a touch of lustre. Your fabric — and whether you knit with elastane for stretch — guides the construction we recommend.
